Ashwagandha Supplements For Your Mind And Body
Ashwagandha For Stress and Anxiety:*
A study evaluating the effects of Ashwagandha on chronic stress and anxiety was published in the Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine. The clinical study was a single center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial which determined results by measuring the participants’ serum cortisol levels and their scores on stress-assessment questionnaires.
The study consisted of 64 participants with chronic stress and lasted a period of 60 days. The participants were divided randomly into either a placebo group or treatment group and were requested to take one capsule, twice a day for the duration of the trial. Those in the treatment group were administered a high-concentration full-spectrum Ashwagandha extract.
At the end of the study period, the results reported an extremely significant reduction in the scores on the stress-assessment questionnaire in the Ashwagandha group in comparison with the placebo group. Serum cortisol levels were also reduced. This shows Ashwagandha to be extremely beneficial in reducing an individual’s stress levels and improving quality of life.

Ashwagandha As An Anti-Inflammatory:*
There have been a few animal studies conducted showing the benefit Ashwagandha has on reducing inflammation. One study published in the Journal of Complementary & Integrative Medicine evaluated the effects Ashwagandha had on rats with collagen-induced arthritis.
The rats were either given three different oral doses of Ashwagandha or a well-known anti-rheumatic drug, methotrexate, for a period of 20 days. The results were determined by measuring the arthritic index, autoantibodies, and inflammation markers such as C-reactive protein.
The results showed a reduction in the arthritic index, autoantibodies, and C-reactive protein in the rats treated with the Ashwagandha comparable to those treated with methotrexate. This concludes that Ashwagandha is an effective course of action for arthritis sufferers and reducing inflammation.

Ashwagandha For Cognitive Performance:*
Ashwagandha has been popular in Ayurvedic medicine for improving memory and cognition. One pilot study published in the Journal of Dietary Supplements was designed to determine the effectiveness of Ashwagandha on memory and cognitive functioning in adults with mild cognitive impairment.
50 participants took part in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study which lasted for a period of 8 weeks. The participants were either given a twice-daily dose of Ashwagandha or a placebo. The results showed significant improvements in both immediate and general memory in the Ashwagandha group compared to the placebo group which was evidenced in various test scores. Ashwagandha was also shown to be effective for improving attention and information processing speed.
